Sonel LKZ-2500 Start, Lite & Pro – Cable and Utility Locator

Sonel LKZ-2500 is a professional system for locating, identifying and tracing cables, utilities and other underground objects. The system consists of the LKN-2500 transmitter and LKD-2500 receiver and can be used for both active and passive locating.

LKZ-2500 is available in four different versions – Start, Lite, LKZ-2500 and Pro. All versions use the same LKN-2500 transmitter and LKD-2500 receiver, while the configuration and included equipment differ between the versions.

Choose the right model

All models include the LKN-2500 transmitter, LKD-2500 receiver, Sonel LKZ Mobile and equipment for connection and locating. The main differences are the holder, carrying solution and whether the control panel and LKR-2500 A-Frame are included.

Start or Lite?
Start and Lite use the same LKN-2500 transmitter and LKD-2500 receiver. The main difference is the configuration: Start includes the long holder, XL-1 universal bag and shoulder harness, while Lite includes the short holder and smaller L-10 carrying case.

LKZ-2500 or Pro?
LKZ-2500 adds a separate control panel to the system. Pro also includes the LKR-2500 A-Frame, which is used for locating cable grounding points as well as signal and fault detection at a specified azimuth.

Locating underground cables and utilities

Sonel LKZ-2500 is designed for locating, identifying and tracing cables, utilities and other underground objects.

The system can be used to trace, among other things:

• Power, control and telecommunications cables
• Underground parts of lightning protection and cathodic protection systems
• Water and sewage pipes
• Fuel and gas pipelines
• Heating systems and pre-insulated pipes

The system is suitable for groundworks and infrastructure applications in areas such as energy, electrical installation, construction, railways, telecommunications, water and sewage, and heating networks.

Active and passive locating

The LKN-2500 transmitter sends a locating signal to the underground object. The LKD-2500 receiver then follows the signal along the route of the object. Its position can be tracked using the receiver’s compass indication and measured signal level.

The LKZ-2500 can be used in both passive mode, without the LKN-2500 transmitter, and active mode together with the transmitter.

In active mode, the signal can be applied in three different ways:

• Galvanic connection – the signal is connected directly to the object using crocodile clips and test leads.
• Clamp connection – the signal is applied to the object using an inductive transmitting clamp.
• Inductive connection – the signal is transmitted inductively using the instrument’s built-in antenna.

Document routes with Sonel LKZ Mobile

The LKD-2500 can be connected to Sonel LKZ Mobile, where the position of the located utility can be displayed and routes can be recorded together with GPS coordinates of measurement points and other measurement data.

The app can be used to:

• Display the current position
• Measure the distance to a specific measurement point
• Record and save routes
• Export routes to other mobile devices
• View previously saved routes
• Display recorded parameters
• Merge routes
• Add notes to routes and measurement points

Recorded files can be exported and shared with other users, including users who do not have access to the LKN-2500/LKD-2500.

Sonel LKZ Mobile

The application works with the Sonel LKD-2500 detector and makes it possible to document located objects and their routes directly on a mobile device.

GPS positions of measurement points and additional measurement data can be saved together with the route. The information can then be exported and shared for further documentation and analysis.
