While partial discharge measurement is suitable for detecting electrical trees, tangent delta measurement \u2013 also referred to as dissipation factor measurement \u2013 detects <b>water trees<\/b>which have formed in the insulation of the device under test. The data collected is compared to measurement values from the same cable taken during the acceptance test. That allows\u00a0<b>classification\u00a0<\/b>of the dielectric condition (new, strongly aged, faulty) of the cable.<\/p>\n<p>The weight-optimized cable diagnostics systems are compact and designed for\u00a0<b>mobile use<\/b>. As with VLF cable testing a sinusoidal 0.1 Hz VLF (very low frequency)\u00a0<b>AC test voltage<\/b> is used. To measure the dissipation factor tan \u03b4, voltages up to\u00a0<b>twice the nominal voltage<\/b> (2.0 U0) are required. Therefore, there are two models in the TD series offering 2 voltage ranges &#8211;\u00a0<b>33 kV peak and 62 kV peak. <\/b>These ultra precise cable diagnosis systems measure the dissipation factor with an\u00a0<b>accuracy<\/b>of\u00a0<b>\u00b1 10-\u2074<\/b>\u00a0for loads in the range of\u00a0<b>15 nF to 5 \u03bcF.<\/b><\/p>\n<p><strong>Fields of application<\/strong><\/p>\n<p class=\"bodytext\">Tangent delta measurement is compatible with medium voltage cables with various insulation types, such<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>XLPE<\/li>\n<li>PE<\/li>\n<li>EPR<\/li>\n<li>PILC<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Furthermore capacitors, switchgear, transformers and rotating machines can be tested.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Reporting and display<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The PC-based software-tool\u00a0<b>TD Control Center<\/b> offers functions for analysis, storage and display of the measurement process. During the tangent delta measurement, <b>output voltage and current<\/b>\u00a0are transferred in\u00a0<b>real time<\/b>\u00a0to the PC-software via the Bluetooth\u2122 interface.<br \/>\nThe tangent delta graph shows measurement values of the dissipation factor tan \u03b4 with respect to the selected output voltage test points.<br \/>\nDuring the test procedure, a <b>diagnosis
